Nong Youhui - Cat Eye Boy from China

Meet Nong Youhui who has cat-like blue eyes and can see clearly in the dark. We first heard about him in 2009 but now a video report by China’s CCTV has emerged online exploring the boy’s phenomenal ability. Youhui lives in Dahua, southern China and according to the story, medical tests conducted in complete darkness show he can read perfectly without any light and sees clearly during the day. Hard to verify – it is China after all – but we are intrigued.

Artificial Sun at Trafalgar Square,London

This ʻbrilliantʼ artwork was commissioned by Tropicana (PepsiCo) to support their current advertising campaign. Art collective Greyworld created the spectacular sun which was raised over Trafalgar Square early this morning as part of Tropicana’s “Brighter Mornings” campaign.

Created by Greyworld and taking over six months to create, the manufactured sun is 30,000 times bigger than a football, has a surface area of 200m2 and weighs over 2,500kgs. Its internal light source produces the equivalent of 60,000 lightbulbs, 4-million lumens of light.

Still it's no match for the actual sun but who doesn't love a little extra light now and then? Especially in Winter when it's so dark all the time. Check out the video of this morning's illumination and a "making of" video.

Solar flare: Cooking Mother Earth

Today was really hot, and I can't stop sweating the whole day. I wanted to sleep, but my room is heated up like an Oven, and the only choice for me to cool down is on the beach.

After months of non-stop raining, finally, the sun does shine, but, too much. I remember about 4 years ago, me and my brothers usually play basketball at 12 noon and I usually can take the heat. But now, even just 10 minutes over exposed to the sun makes my head dizzy and my skin turns like roasted pork.

The news says it is because of Solar flares. If you saw the Nicholas Cage movie 'Knowing' then you will know what I am talking about.

Here is the nerdy explanation about Solar flare

A flare is defined as a sudden, rapid, and intense variation in brightness. A solar flare occurs when magnetic energy that has built up in the solar atmosphere is suddenly released. Radiation is emitted across virtually the entire electromagnetic spectrum, from radio waves at the long wavelength end, through optical emission to x-rays and gamma rays at the short wavelength end. The amount of energy released is the equivalent of millions of 100-megaton hydrogen bombs exploding at the same time! The first solar flare recorded in astronomical literature was on September 1, 1859. Two scientists, Richard C. Carrington and Richard Hodgson, were independently observing sunspots at the time, when they viewed a large flare in white light.

As the magnetic energy is being released, particles, including electrons, protons, and heavy nuclei, are heated and accelerated in the solar atmosphere. The energy released during a flare is typically on the order of 1027 ergs per second. Large flares can emit up to 1032 ergs of energy. This energy is ten million times greater than the energy released from a volcanic explosion. On the other hand, it is less than one-tenth of the total energy emitted by the Sun every second.

There are typically three stages to a solar flare. First is the precursor stage, where the release of magnetic energy is triggered. Soft x-ray emission is detected in this stage. In the second or impulsive stage, protons and electrons are accelerated to energies exceeding 1 MeV. During the impulsive stage, radio waves, hard x-rays, and gamma rays are emitted. The gradual build up and decay of soft x-rays can be detected in the third, decay stage. The duration of these stages can be as short as a few seconds or as long as an hour.

Solar flares extend out to the layer of the Sun called the corona. The corona is the outermost atmosphere of the Sun, consisting of highly rarefied gas. This gas normally has a temperature of a few million degrees Kelvin. Inside a flare, the temperature typically reaches 10 or 20 million degrees Kelvin, and can be as high as 100 million degrees Kelvin. The corona is visible in soft x-rays, as in the above image. Notice that the corona is not uniformly bright, but is concentrated around the solar equator in loop-shaped features. These bright loops are located within and connect areas of strong magnetic field called active regions. Sunspots are located within these active regions. Solar flares occur in active regions.

The frequency of flares coincides with the Sun's eleven year cycle. When the solar cycle is at a minimum, active regions are small and rare and few solar flares are detected. These increase in number as the Sun approaches the maximum part of its cycle. The Sun will reach its next maximum in the year 2011, give or take one year.

A person cannot view a solar flare by simply staring at the Sun. (NEVER LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE SUN! EYE DAMAGE CAN RESULT.) Flares are in fact difficult to see against the bright emission from the photosphere. Instead, specialized scientific instruments are used to detect the radiation signatures emitted during a flare. The radio and optical emissions from flares can be observed with telescopes on the Earth. Energetic emissions such as x-rays and gamma rays require telescopes located in space, since these emissions do not penetrate the Earth's atmosphere.

How to Blog

You have probably heard from other people or on other websites about success on blogging. Many has become rich by blogging. They say they earn as much as $1200 a day, and all you have to do is blog 30 minutes a day.

Many People though online blogging is a get rich scheme. Well, its kinda true, there are people who finds success in blogging., and they become rich fast. But those people are very persistent.

Because of the hype, many people have tried blogging. When we see what they have like cars, mansions, wives, we always think " I want that, I want those". And they get rich by just being online like 30 minutes a day.

But first what is a blog?

What is a blog?
A blog (a blend of the term web log) is a type of website or part of a website supposed to be updated with new content from time to time. Blogs are usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. Blog can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

Although not a must, most good quality blogs are interactive, allowing visitors to leave comments and even message each other via GUI widgets on the blogs and it is this interactivity that distinguishes them from other static websites. In that sense, blogging can be seen as a form of social networking. Indeed, bloggers do not only produce content to post on their blogs but also build social relations with their readers and other bloggers.

Many blogs provide commentary on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries; yet still others function more as online brand advertising of a particular individual or company. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, Web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability of readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs. Most blogs are primarily textual, although some focus on art (art blog), photographs (photoblog), videos (video blogging or vlogging), music (MP3 blog), and audio (podcasting). Microblogging is another type of blogging, featuring very short posts.

As of 16 February 2011, there were over 156 million public blogs in existence.

for more go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blog

I got some advice for new bloggers, so you won't get lost.

You Can't Make a Fortune Overnight. While some claims they did become rich overnight. As far as I know there is no business anywhere that could make you a millionaire the next day. Like I said before this is not a get rich scheme you have to be persistent to achieve success.

You Have to Work Without Income. Yes this is true, developing a blog takes time, effort and you have to sacrifice without pay for almost a year some takes longer. I know someone that takes 3 years before he receive his first pay check online. I did work on my blog for about 7 months without pay, now I have only $2 in my paycheck balance, isn't that frustrating. I did blog for 7 months but only get 2 dollars.

Be Persistent. You need this kind of attitude for you to achieve success. Quitting due to frustrations will not get you to the goal you always wanted. If you fail always try again, continue learning, absorb what you learn and never quit.

Have Fun Blogging. Actually blogging is fun, you design your own site, you can put any posts as you like, make friends, you can do anything and its quite challenging and fun. When you start blogging keep in mind that you do it for the love of blogging and it is fun, don't mind how much you will earn, because it frustrates us sometimes. Treat your blog like your online game character, that you always visit everyday, learn new things, and make friends online. Do it for fun and you won't be frustrated.

Have Something Original. Today there are millions of websites and blogs and having something original is kinda hard. And you will say its all been done before. Well, for me it is not true. Even if you know your field is saturated you can always put some twists in your own, that your competitor doesn't have.

Remember back in the day, when Myspace and Friendster ruled the Social Networking business. Mark Zuckerburg of Facebook has found a way that those two sites doesn't have, that makes Facebook unique. In the end FB has put those two out of business and forced to sell it.

You gotta have a long term Strategy.  If you want to make it online, you have to be focused to stay on the competition. With the technology, trends changes so fast you gotta keep it up and don't be left behind.

You don't have to be an expert about the internet. Actually anyone can do it, even our grandpa's can blog. You don't need to put animations in blog, make it simple and very easy for visitors to read. Just make your site user friendly and easy to navigate.

Worst Songs so far

The music listed here has achieved a notably negative reputation and been called the worst music ever made by a combination of reputable sources. Such sources include the music press, television broadcasters (such as MTV), radio stations and public polls and by me.

To be reliable, these sources must consider a large amount of musical history and a wide range of viewpoints before judging a piece to be the worst. This subject can also include works that are notably considered the worst-ever in fields closely related to music production, such as album artwork and music videos.

Here are some whom I consider the worst songs ever

Rebecca Black 'Friday' (2011)
This song was voted on the You tube community as the worst song ever! The song even goes viral and was sung on Glee. The Music Video has more than 20 Millions views, wow! The song maybe dumb but its very popular.

Baha men ' Who let the dogs out' (2000)
The song was voted on Spinner's "top 20 worst songs ever'

Aqua 'Barbie Girl'
A brunette Barbie and a bald Ken, hehehe. This song has no sense at all

Cheeky Girls 'Cheeky song'
Voted the no. 1 "worst pop record" by Channel Four viewers in a poll broadcast in January 2004. The only thing I like about it, is the booty! oh yeah.

William Hung 'she bangs'
WTF?! This guy is hot, he sings better than Ricky Martin, he shakes his booty like Shakira, but he looks like Budoy, hahaha!

Gunther and the Sunshine Girls 'Ding dong song'
Ah yes! one of my favorite of all time. I like this song even it sucks, its like a porn song to me. It has naughty lyrics and a funny guy with a weird mustache. Watch the video, you might like it, even its one of the worst song ever!

Gay Mice by Chinese Scientists

Researchers from China have discovered that male mice who are either bred without serotonin or whose bodies just aren’t receptive to serotonin have zero interest in mating with female mice.

Known as the ‘happiness hormone,’ serotonin seems to function as a “mating call” for male mice. Those whose brains cannot process it, or those who don’t have the tryptophan hydroxylase 2 gene (which produces serotonin), therefore don’t get the desire to mate, or at least not with females.

What’s interesting is that when such mice are placed among both male and female mice, they are indifferent to both types. However, when a serotonin deprived male is left alone with another male, he’ll proceed to “mount the male and emit a mating call.

This sudden preference for other males can be reverted, however, by injecting serotonin into the mouse’s brain.

Note that this study is very inconclusive, in that it cannot be used to explain human sexuality.

“Any potential links between serotonin and human sexual preferences must be considered somewhat tenuous,” Professor Keith Kendrick said.

The results do show, however, that neurotransmitters play some sort of role in regard to sexual preference—or at least with animals.

Some facts about Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays. In China, it is known as "Spring Festival," the literal translation of the Chinese name 春節 (Pinyin: Chūnjié), since the spring season in Chinese calendar starts with lichun, the first solar termin a Chinese calendar year. It marks the end of the winter season, analogous to the Western carnival. The festival begins on the first day of the first month (Chinese: 正月; pinyin:Zhēngyuè) in the traditional Chinese calendar and ends with Lantern Festival which is on the 15th day. Chinese New Year's Eve, a day where Chinese families gather for their annual reunion dinner, is known as Chúxī (除夕) or "Eve of the Passing Year." Because the Chinese calendar is lunisolar, the Chinese New Year is often referred to as the "Lunar New Year".

Chinese New Year is the longest and most important festivity in the Chinese calendar. The origin of Chinese New Year is itself centuries old and gains significance because of several myths and traditions. Chinese New Year is celebrated in countries and territories with significant Chinese populations, such as Mainland China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines , Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and also in Chinatownselsewhere. Chinese New Year is considered a major holiday for the Chinese and has had influence on the lunar new year celebrations of its geographic neighbors. These include Korean (Seollal), Bhutanese (Losar), and Vietnamese cultures.

Within China, regional customs and traditions concerning the celebration of the Chinese new year vary widely. People will pour out their money to buy presents, decoration, material, food, and clothing. It is also the tradition that every family thoroughly cleans the house to sweep away any ill-fortune in hopes to make way for good incoming luck. Windows and doors will be decorated with red colour paper-cuts and couplets with popular themes of "good fortune" or "happiness", "wealth", and "longevity". On the Eve of Chinese New Year, supper is a feast with families. Food will include such items as pigs, ducks, chicken and sweet delicacies. The family will end the night with firecrackers. Early the next morning, children will greet their parents by wishing them a healthy and happy new year, and receive money in red paper envelopes. The Chinese New Year tradition is to reconcile, forget all grudges and sincerely wish peace and happiness for everyone.

Although the Chinese calendar traditionally does not use continuously numbered years, outside China its years are often numbered from the reign of the Yellow Emperor. But at least three different years numbered 1 are now used by various scholars, making the year beginning in AD 2012 the "Chinese Year" 4710, 4709, or 4649.
                                                                                                                                -Wikipedia-

The first day of the 2012 Chinese New Year is on January 23, 2012 in China's time zone. This day is a new moon day, and is the first day of the first Chinese lunar month in the Chinese Lunar Calendar system. The exact new moon time is at 15:40 on 23-Jan-12 in China's time zone.

The Year 2012 is the 4709th Chinese year. The Chinese believe that the first king of China was the Yellow King (he was not the first emperor of China). The Yellow King became king in 2697 B.C., therefore China will enter the 4709th year on January 23, 2012. Also, the Chinese Year uses the cycle of 60 Stem-Branch counting systems and the Black Water Dragon is the 28th Stem-Branch in the cycle. Since (60 *78) + 29 = 4709, therefore 2012 is the Water Dragon year, which is the 4709th Chinese Year.

Fun Facts About the Chinese New Year

  1. The traditional Chinese New Year celebration lasts 15 days.
  2. 2012 is the year of the Black Water Dragon.
  3. Everyone goes home for the Chinese New Year celebrations, if they can. The period just before the Chinese New Year, called chunyun, is the busiest travel time of the entire year. All across China and beyond, you’ll find people on their way home to spend this time with their families.
  4. The Chinese New Year is seen as the perfect time to do some spring cleaning.  Traditionally, it was believed that cleaning house for the new year’s celebrations swept bad luck away and helped ensure good fortune in the year to come.
  5. Traditional foods include fish, which is served at the end of the New Year’s meal and symbolizes abundance, and a sticky fruitcake called Neen Gow or Nian Gow.
  6. Red decorations are everywhere, because the color red is considered to be one of the luckiest colors of all.  Older family members use red envelopes to give gifts of cash to their younger relatives.
  7. Shou Sui is the practice of staying up until midnight as a family to greet the new year.
  8. During the Chinese New Year, people often greet each other by shouting “auspicious phrases” thought to bring luck, like “gōng xǐ fā cái,” which translates to “Congratulations and be prosperous.” Children sometimes use the following variant of this greeting when they are feeling cheeky: “gōng xǐ fā cái, hóng bāo ná lái.” That means “Congratulations and be prosperous, now give me a red envelope!”

Ganvie The River In Benin

That's not a photo of a flooded village. This is Ganvié, in the Republic of Benin, the largest collection of lake dwellings in Africa. Around 20,000 people call Ganvié's stilt supported dwellings home. Getting around in the town is only possible in boats carved from tree trunks, even if all you want to do is visit the next door neighbour.

The meaning of the name Ganvie is "we survived", and is a reminder of events centuries ago that led to the founding of the township. It's commonly believed that the Tofinu people settled here around 400 years ago to escape slavers who came from the Fon tribe and were not allowed to fight in water for traditional reasons (or perhaps could not swim).

Since then Ganvié has remained, forever physically changing by sheer dint of geography, but it has developed a complex and successful culture around life on the lake. Of course there are pockets of poverty, as there is everywhere else, but generally the people of Ganvié live ones of relative prosperity.
