Report: Gadhafi's Daughter may seek Political Asylum in Israel

The daughter of slain Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi reportedly wants to live in exile in Israel, the Los Angeles Timessays.

The Times writes that Aisha Gadhafi, who fled to Algeria two months before her father was slain in October as rebels seized control, "indicated to confidants from Europe" that "only in Israel would she feel safe." She also is apparently worried that Libya's new government may eventually pressure Algeria to extradite her to stand trial along with her brother, Saif al-Islam.

The Times' article is based on a report in Intelligence Online that an Israeli news site picked up.

Friends reportedly have counseled against making an official request for asylum, believing that Israel would reject it. But, as the Times writes, "she might actually qualify for the automatic right to immigrate to the Jewish state." Libyan Jews in Israel believe Moammar Gadhafi was Jewish.

I rather be a prisoner in Norway

PICTURE NUMBER 1

PICTURE NUMBER 2

Can you guess what is wrong with those two pictures?

The first time saw those, I can say those two pictures are types of homes. Picture 1 is owned by a rich family and the other were owned by a less fortunate family.

But the truth is picture number one is actually a prison in Norway! and the other is one of the homes from the squatters area in Manila.

About Halden Prison in Norway

Halden Prison (Norwegian: Halden fengsel) is the newest prison in Halden, Norway. The prison was designed by Erik Møller Architects and received its first inmates March 1, 2010 but was officially opened on April 8 by the Norwegian King Harald V. The prison has a capacity of 252 prisoners.

In an article in Time Magazine , Halden Prison and the prison rehabilitation work were described. Cells include amenities such as flat-screen televisions, refrigerators, unbarred vertical windows that let in more light, and designer furniture. Prisoners share kitchens and living rooms every 10-12 cells, jogging trails, and a sound studio. There are cooking and music classes offered. Half the guards are women and guards are typically unarmed because guns "[create] unnecessary intimidation and social distance". Prisoners receive questionnaires that ask how their prison experience can be improved.

The article says that although recidivism rates are calculated differently between countries, only 20% of Norway's prisoners end up back in jail within 2 years (compared to 50%-60% in the UK and US). Prisoner governor Are Hoidal was quoted as saying, "In the Norwegian prison system, there's a focus on human rights and respect. We don't see any of this as unusual."

In July of 2011, multiple news sources have speculated the possibility of mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik being moved to Halden Prison to serve his term but did not cite any official source from the Norwegian Police, only other new sources. Currently Breivik is being held in solitary confinement in an undisclosed location.

GMA 7: ABS is not telling the truth

The Kapuso network claims the Kapamilya network is not telling the truth.

This is the gist of GMA-7's public statement about the civil case filed by ABS-CBN against ratings service provider AGB Nielsen.

The statement, which came from Kapuso network corporate communications consultant Butch Racquel, was sent in the form of a press release to PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) this afternoon, December 28.

The press release singles out a statement that it says the Kapamilya network often includes in its press releases about ratings (itals provided):

"ABS-CBN shifted to Kantar Media/TNS after filing a case vs. AGB Nielsen Media Research for failing to comply with its request to investigate alleged cheating and data tampering in TV ratings. The case is still pending in court."

The ABS-CBN statement, says GMA-7, "strongly aims to discredit AGB as a ratings service provider in the media industry."

Furthermore, it says, "This claim was verified to be untrue."

The case filed by ABS-CBN against AGB Nielson, says the GMA-7 statement, has long been dismissed by the courts.

It then mentions dates that it claims proves that ABS-CBN no longer has a case pending in the courts against AGB Nielsen:

"The case filed by ABS-CBN against AGB was dismissed by Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Presiding Judge Charito Gonzales on January 7, 2008 for being prematurely filed. The Court likewise denied the Motion for Reconsideration filed by ABS-CBN in an Order dated June 8, 2009.

"On January 5, 2010, Atty. Maila Doroteo Santos, Branch Clerk of the Quezon City RTC issued a Certificate of Finality, which confirms the Court's Decision on the said case as final and executory.

"ABS-CBN sought relief from the judgment earlier rendered by filing a Petition on ground that 'it did not receive' a copy of the June 8, 2009 Order. RTC Judge Charito Gonzales found the Petition dismissible based on 'both substantive and procedural grounds.'

"In an Order dated October 27, 2010, Judge Gonzales said that 'the 'incoming pleadings' document presented by the petitioner's (ABS-CBN) counsel to prove that it did not receive a copy of the Order dated June 8, 2009, besides being self-serving, cannot be said to faithfully reflect all the pleadings received by petitioner's counsel.' A return card attached to the records of the case evidenced that the Order was duly received by ABS-CBN's counsel on June 23, 2009.

"Hence, the Court stated that based on procedural ground, it cannot grant ABS-CBN relief from judgment under Rule 38 of the Revised Rules of Court as it was justly given the opportunity to file an appeal but it did not within the prescribed period."

The Kapuso network also says it was issuing the statement so that media outfits, including PEP, acknowledge the ruling of the court, "which renders the above mentioned civil case as closed."

PEP asked ABS-CBN to respond to the GMA-7 statement.

As reply, its corporate communications head, Bong Osorio, sent this brief text message to PEP: "Why is GMA making a comment when it is not party to this case?"

BACKGROUND. It may be recalled that the issue between ABS-CBN and AGB Nielsen started in 2007, when ABS-CBN accused GMA-7 of ratings fraud in the areas of Bacolod and Iloilo.

AGB was the ratings service provider to both stations at the time.

Aquino: Fact-finding team looking into Sendong disaster

-abs-cbnnews.com

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) - President Benigno Aquino said a fact-finding team has been tasked to investigate how tropical storm Sendong caused a disaster in the southern Philippines.

Aquino, in an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN News' Lynda Jumilla that aired on ANC Tuesday night, said he will wait for the team's report to determine accountability for the tragedy.

He said the national government was not caught asleep by the storm.

"Government was not caught flat-footed at the height of Sendong. We were ready to assist," he said.

Aquino said the Office of Civil Defense, the Department of Social Welfare and Development, and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council did their work in responding to the Sendong disaster.

Aquino said that before the flashfloods occurred, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources had already warned the Cagayan de Oro local government about the danger threatening Isla de Oro.

The community, which was built on a sandbar, was wiped out by flashfloods at the height of the storm.

He added that the Department of Science and Technology is launching an educational campaign on effects of amount of rainfall to help local government units prepare for storms and typhoons.

"Nag-iisip tayo lagi ng hangin, di nag-iisip ng lakas ng ulan," the President said.

Sendong was carrying "very heavy rainfall of over 50mm/hr (~2 inches)" when it hit northern Mindanao, according to the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM), a joint project between the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).

In comparison, Ondoy dumped 56.83mm/hr of rainfall on Metro Manila in September 2009.

Illegal logging

Aquino also believes that illegal logging was one of the reasons behind the disaster.

He said that while the Palace was enforcing a logging ban nationwide through an executive order, logging activities continued in Iligan.

"Mayroong authority from the [previous] ARMM [Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao] government [that allowed logging]," Aquino said.

"I have tasked ARMM OIC[officer-in-charge], concerned agencies to start ensuring logging ban is imposed," he added.

He shrugged off criticisms that he was not visible during the early days of the disaster.

"Nginingitian ko nalang mga kritisismo. I'm not one to grandstand, mag photo-op [opportunity]," he said.

"Kung ang Presidente kailangan pumunta sa disaster area para may kumilos, palpak ang Presidenteng iyon," he added.

Meanwhile, Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda defended the Palace in response to on a report that government officials ignored warnings from environmentalists about a looming natural disaster.

"It was early on in the administration and, as you know, we were really trying to do a lot of efforts at that time. We were doing a lot of clearing of the landmines and the situation right now has made it emphatic for us to look into and as well as for the local government units to seriously look into the hazard areas in their respective units and it's something that we, the national government and the local governments of the respective local governments should work at," Lacierda said. - with reports from Willard Cheng, ABS-CBN News; ANC

North Korea prepares Kim's funeral

North Korea--  Thousands of mourners are expected to attend the funeral of late North Korean leader Kim Jong-il. Preparations are ready and expect this to be a very dramatic event, just like the funeral of Kim's late father in 1994.

North Korea's state media hasn't given any details of Wednesday's funeral, and foreign guests are barred. But political analysts predicted a large re-run in 1994, a farewell funeral for Kim's father and founding president Kim il-sung.

"The outpouring of grief in 1994 was prevalent throughout Pyongyang, with almost all citizens out to bid farewell to their leader," Yang Moo-jin of Seoul's University of North Korean Studies told the AFP news agency.

"The grief for Kim Il-sung was genuine, with many people expressing real sorrow. The mood this time appears to be slightly different.

"The regime used the 1994 funeral to strengthen public allegiance and loyalty to new leader Kim Jong-il. His own funeral this week will be staged in a similar way."

'Great successor'

The communist state has proclaimed Kim's youngest son, Kim Jong-un, the "great successor" since his father died on December 17 aged 69.

But while Kim Jong-il had 20 years to prepare for his takeover, Kim Jong-un has had barely three.

Analysts are watching developments closely for clues to who will gain power and who may have fallen out of favour in the next era of leadership.

Mourning will officially end on Thursday with a nationwide memorial service including a three-minute silence at noon.

"Mourning shots will be fired in Pyongyang and all provincial units across the country, and three minutes of silence will be observed by people across the country," the North's official news agency said.

On Monday, Kim Jong-un met the heads of two South Korean delegations visiting Pyongyang to pay respects to his father.

Lee Hee-ho, widow of late South Korean President Kim Dae-jung, and Hyundai Group chairwoman Hyun Jung-eun paid respects to the late leader at the Kumsusan Memorial Palace and expressed condolences to Jong-un.

"I hope that our visit to the North will help improve South-North relations," Lee said before she crossed the border.

Kim Dae-jung and Kim Jong-il held the first-ever inter-Korea summit in 2000 and Hyundai pioneered cross-border business projects.

The delegates returned home on Tuesday.

The ice on a famous lake also cracked so loud, it seemed to shake the Heavens and the Earth.

Kim Jong-il's funeral is scheduled for 28 December in Pyongyang, with a mourning period lasting until the following day. South Korea's military was immediately put on alert after the announcement and its National Security Council convened for an emergency meeting, out of concern that political jockeying in North Korea could destabilise the region. Asian stock markets fell soon after the announcement, due to similar concerns.

In March 2010, Whitfield was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma and began undergoing treatment immediately in New Zealand. This delayed production of season two of Spartacus: Blood and Sand. While waiting for Whitfield's treatment and expected recovery, the network produced a six-part prequel, Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, with only a brief uncredited voiceover from the actor. Although declared cancer-free only two months later, he suffered a recurrence of the disease later in the year and was ultimately compelled to abandon the role. Starz recast 29-year-old Australian actor Liam McIntyre as Whitfield's successor.
Whitfield died of non-Hodgkin lymphoma in Sydney, Australia, on 11 September 2011, 18 months after his initial cancer diagnosis.

The Celtics Kevin Garnett Chokes a Player

NBA- The Celtics- Knicks was very close after four quarters of action. As a more dominant team than the Knicks, the Celtics seems to be in control of the game until the fourth quarter.

But New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony has put his team on his shoulders down the stretch, he scored 17 points in the fourth quarter alone. Then Anthony also scored the final two points that came from free throws in the waning moments. After being fouled, both teams are tied, 104-104, and Anthony shoots both free throws.

Kevin Garnett was given the chance to tie the ball game, and got enough space for a fade away midrange jumper from the wing. But his shot didn't go in. The Boston Celtics has blown their lead, after the Garnet miss the Madison Square Garden was jubilant.

And then Garnett got a heated exchange with former teammate Knicks player Bill Walker, who contested his shot. He got some few words and then put his hand to Walkers' throat and shove him back. Baron Davis who was injured wearing street clothes rushed quickly to intervened on Walker's behalf.

Walker tells what has happened between him and Garnett during the incident.

"I guess he got mad I contested his shot. He grabbed my hand, tangled it up. I pulled my hand away, and then we had a situation," he said. "I'm a grown-up. You put your hands on my face, what part of the game is that? You know what the man does. Would you want me to put my hands on your face and push you away? I'm a man at the end of the day. It's disrespectful. You should not do that to any man."

Will Garnett be suspended on how he behaves during that game?
